St Georges Day Flags
Its almost that time of year when the village comes alive with the St Georges Day Flags.  We'll be putting them up on Sunday 14th April, meeting at 10am at the noticeboard outside the Kitchen Larder.  We understand that time is precious but we really hope you can support us - even if you physically can't be there, please ask your friends and family if they can help.  We had very few volunteers to help with the take down of the Christmas lights and it would be a real shame if we were unable to put the flags up this year.

Purple Day for Epilepsy Society
Our last Chamber Seminar was held at the Epilepsy Society where we learnt all about Epilepsy and the fabulous work the Society does with no Government funding.  If you haven't heard of Purple Day, where have you been hiding? It's on 26th March and many of our businesses are turning purple on, and leading up to the day. You don't have to do very much at all.. wear something purple, bake a purple cake... it's more about awareness, but if you can do something to raise money for the Epilepsy Society even better - remember to use the tag #purpleday in your social media posts

Our next Seminar
Our next seminar is at Austenmead, a lovely supported living home in School Lane. We'll be there on 23rd May from about 6pm - presentations start at 6.30pm  At these events you get to learn about some of our members and their businesses as well as enjoying a drink or two with time for informal networking.
If you would like to showcase your business at one of our  events please do get in contact.

Your Chamber needs you!
You may have seen in the Presidents report for 2018 that we finished up last year with 91 members - more than we've ever had! However, we are struggling to find committee members to support all these members. If you have a few hours a week and want to join a proactive team supporting our businesses, please let me know.  You are often the first to know about important information and initiatives and will have a say in any decisions we make. You are more than welcome to attend one of our monthly committee meetings before you commit to anything. Let me know if you want further details.

Feast Day
Feast Day will be here before we know it! If you'd like to advertise your business or organisation in the Feast Day brochure please get in contact with Simon on 077866 00070 or mailto:simon_harris@talk21.com" rel="nofollow - simon_harris@talk21.com before the end of March.

If you can volunteer some time on the day or want to book a stall, please mailto:enquiries@feastofstpeter.org.uk" rel="nofollow -

Subscriptions 2019

A gentle reminder to pay your subscriptions for 2019 before we need to start the reminder process. All of this will cost us time and effort which we could be making more use of elsewhere.  If you haven't joined yet and would like to know more about member benefits, please get in contact.

Newsletter September 2019:

Thank you for subscribing to the Keep it Local CSP newsletter, containing regular news and updates about what's available in YOUR village!

https://cspchamber.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0fee5347a3a65e27abbc26ab8&id=a491811475&e=44b0d355ec" rel="nofollow - - Chamber of Commerce  to encourage people in Chalfont St Peter to shop in our handy village centre, to dine in local restaurants, to engage tradesmen from across the village for odd jobs and bigger projects, to use the varied services of the multitude of business people in the area – and help them all to continue to provide us with useful products and services, right on our doorstep, to minimise the need to travel further afield to less convenient shopping centres. Please spread the word and help others to 'Keep it Local'...

The Chamber are delighted to welcome Karen Dickson and Tony Shinner to our numbers. Both Karen and Tony are regular supporters of the Chamber in their capacity as parish councillors, but they now join us as business owners of DicksonShinner

‘CSP and the surrounding areas has a high percentage of elderlyresidents, and not all of them are fortunate enough to have family close by to assist them with their administrative, practical and financial needs’, says Karen.

DicksonShinner is a confidential, registered and insured service that is able to act as advocates for clients no longer mobile or able to manage their own affairs. Karen and Tony are able to act under Power of Attorney to handle all medical and financial matters for the client, while the client is well enough to instruct them, and to continue acting for their client if their health should take a turn for the worse and they do not have immediate next of kin close by to step in for them.

DicksonShinner are also able to assist with all matters probate-related, from closing down accounts and services, to sorting pets, cars and homes, and making the necessary applications to the court for authority to clear and empty the home and oversee the entire probate process. A different but significant service aims to help clients put their affairs in order.  This service helps folk prepare the paperwork that their executor will one day need to administer their estate (their home, their finances and their worldly possessions). This popular service is called a BLUE RIBBON PEACE OF MIND Package, and involves a 4 hour consultation (over a number of days) with a client who is sensibly preparing a record of important paperwork for peace of mind.  Identifying items of value in the home, arranging professional valuations and provenance certificates is a part of the service. The end product is a hard copy summary of all important documentation for the client to hand to their chosen executor, their solicitor or trusted family member for safekeeping.
This service is entirely confidential

Employability Skills Day – Wednesday 13th November

The Chalfonts Community College will be holding an Employability Skills Day on Wednesday 13th November, this day is for our Yr11 Students and Sixth Form students. The day will include a careers fair in our main hall, the students will be able to attend four career related workshops, participate in a 1:1 interview with a professional from outside The College and complete an on-line career related psychometric test.

It would be great if local business people and traders could assist us with this day! It is also a great opportunity for you to meet our young people. There are several ways in which you can help us:

• Represent your organisation, area of work at our careers fair. Students are really interested to learn how individuals make their work choices and their career journeys.

• Interview our students. Students are asked to complete a generic application form prior to the meeting, this information will be a starting point for discussion. This is likely to be the first time our students have spoken about themselves in a formal setting. The interview lasts ten minutes and in my opinion is the most personally beneficial part of the day for the student.

• Career Related Workshops. There are a selection of workshops the students can choose to attend, they range from Apprenticeships, Applying to University and University Life, Working in Engineering, Starting Your Own Business, Working in the Catering Industry, Working in Media, Completing a Job Application Form and Writing a CV, Creating a Good Impression….. If you would like to run a workshop, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you further.

If you think you can help, please get in touch with the team on 01753 881744

We need your help
The Chalfont St Peter Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1948 and the team of volunteers have done amazing work over the years supporting business and working with the community. Right now we are desperately short on committee members and we're worried that we will have to cut back on some of our activities.  Please contact me if you think you can spare a few hours a week and be able to attend our monthly meetings - we meet at 6pm on the first Wednesday of each month.

Message from Karen Munro – Career Coach

Whether you’re furloughed, working from home, continuing to work as normal, a Key Worker, self employed or unemployed you will have been effected by Covid-19 in some way.  Whilst there are loads of new websites, posts, programmes and supports out there, it’s still a really challenging and unsettling time.
Whatever your situation is, now is a great time for self-care and self-reflection.  It may also be a fantastic opportunity to evaluate your career.
If you are furloughed, take this time consider how your job may change when you return and what can you do to pivot, adapt and change to make sure you can reconnect with a new normal.  There are lots of  https://cspchamber.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0fee5347a3a65e27abbc26ab8&id=f0997e47bb&e=44b0d355ec" rel="nofollow -  being made available, perhaps investing in some training could help you. You may also be thinking you want to do something different when it’s safe to go back.  Take some time to consider what that might look like.
If you are working from home, can you factor in some free courses in to your routine?  Note the change in your environment and energy levels and consider ways you can adapt to working differently.  I am busy working from home and rearranged my space to ensure I am right near a bright window looking out in to the garden so I don’t feel too hemmed in and can still connect with nature and the sun (when it’s not raining!).
If you are continuing to work as normal, supermarket assistants are a great example, making sure you are able to keep safe at work and ensure your organisation is supporting you and considerate of your wellbeing and safety.  If it is more interested in profit, then perhaps it might be worth thinking about whether their values meet yours.  Is it time to focus on something different or a new employer?
If you have found yourself in the unfortunate position of being made redundant take a look at my article https://cspchamber.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0fee5347a3a65e27abbc26ab8&id=72d58f2bfb&e=44b0d355ec" rel="nofollow -
If you want to make some changes you may be finding it difficult to think past this situation.  I have published an article about the  https://cspchamber.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0fee5347a3a65e27abbc26ab8&id=c691bad90e&e=44b0d355ec" rel="nofollow -  which contains a free self-coaching exercise.  Give it a go and see how it helps you.
I am offering out free CV templates and guides to help anyone in the community thinking about applying for a new job and don’t have a CV.
I am offering a 20 minute  https://cspchamber.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0fee5347a3a65e27abbc26ab8&id=9a514a33a6&e=44b0d355ec" rel="nofollow - , so if you want to use this time as an opportunity to change your life or your Career, please get in touch.
Keep safe and well.

Diogenes Sun Club
Diogenes – locked down but not down!
Diogenes has been open since 1932, and has never closed its doors until now.  It’s been a sad time for us to have to shut, particularly as we approach the peak season for naturism when we’d normally expect our lawns, pools and camping pitches to be full of happy people.  Like any organisation, Covid-19 has impacted our activities, but we have cause for great optimism.
The lock down period has certainly given people a chance to take stock, to seek out ways to improve their wellbeing and find opportunities to relax, managing the stress that so many are feeling while the pandemic progresses.  It’s good to see people out in the countryside on their daily exercise, and getting connected to nature in order to relax.
Connectedness to nature has proven benefits for both mental and physical wellbeing – and naturism fits the bill perfectly! Our national organisation has reported a large increase in interest in naturism, as people look for new ways to escape from the stresses of daily life – and that bodes really well for us!
Although we are shut at the moment, we’re looking forward to when we can reopen and welcome our members, many local, back to the club.  We hope that soon, our six-acre site is again full of happiness, as friends catch up with each other and enjoy the club’s many facilities.
We hope to welcome many new members too, and we are keeping a waiting list ready for when we get back to normality.  You can apply for a free trial visit through our website at  https://cspchamber.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0fee5347a3a65e27abbc26ab8&id=144d2509e3&e=44b0d355ec" rel="nofollow -

We're really pleased to see that many of our non essential retail stores are starting to open up again and it's been lovely to see so many of you supporting the small independents in the village.  It is a tough time at the moment with restrictions imposed to ensure your safety is paramount.  Each business has had to complete a risk assessment and make significant changes to the way they work - many are operating reduced days/hours so please check before making a special trip to your favourite shop.  Over the coming days you will see some changes in the village centre to further ensure your safety and allow for the social distancing guidelines.

Double Celebration at Chalfont St. Peter retirement home

Residents at Austenmead, an independent living home for the elderly on School Lane in Chalfont St. Peter, had two reasons to celebrate recently.  Decked to the rafters with Union Jack bunting, the eight residents celebrated not only the anniversary of the end to the war in Europe, but also that three of the staff at the home, House Managers Lesley Wilcock & Beverley Green and assistant Mimi Zabarcencu have been locked down with them since the lockdown began in mid-March and, as a result, all staff and residents are still safe and well.

The residents at the home, which has eleven rooms in total, have their own self-contained apartments along with a communal dining room and lounge where home-cooked meals and entertainment are provided all year round.  One House Manager is always on site anyway, but although the residents are relatively fit and well, Lesley and Beverley did not hesitate to offer to stay in complete lockdown with them for the three-month period suggested by the government for the vulnerable, in order to reduce the risk of bringing the virus into the home.

In order to try and make up for the absence of visits from loved ones a laptop was bought for the residents to be able to stay in touch and although the usual external entertainers have been unable to visit, the activities have just become more inventive including gala dinners, with everyone dressing up in their finery, growing the houses own fruit and vegetables using the greenhouse and raised plant beds, quizzes, karaoke and of course the usual bingo, film nights, arts and crafts and puzzle solving!  The residents have also been able to benefit from daily walks in the beautiful grounds and being able to sun themselves on the lounge terrace!

Bob Forster, Chair of the team of volunteer trustees who oversee the running of the home, expressed his admiration for both the staff who have devoted themselves to the residents in this way as well as the residents for banding together to get each other through these unprecedented times.

The house has also been well cared for within the community with local people dropping off (on the bench outside the house) gifts for the staff and residents often without knowing even who has done it, and so everyone at the home would like to say a big ‘THANK YOU’ to each and every one of them.

Asked what the staff are most looking forward to in the future, they replied that they can’t wait to welcome new residents, with one currently waiting to move in when restrictions are lifted, and also to move on with the refurbishment of the home, which is currently on hold due to the crisis, which includes modernisation of all en-suites and redecoration of communal areas.

We really love to see our members coming together to work on special projects but this story has really warmed our hearts

Chalfont St Peter Tennis Club is thriving

Since lockdown was lifted in May, Chalfont St Peter Tennis Club has been a fitness lifeline for many people in Chalfont St Peter and surrounding areas.

Membership has risen since they re-opened and with the loyal support of existing members they have had the best adult and junior membership the club has ever seen. With careful financial management and committed voluntary members on the committee, the club can boast 4 Tiger Turf Pro Advantage courts, floodlights on 3 courts and a new online booking system. The club is currently undergoing clubhouse renovation as they were  unfortunately hit by Storm Ciara, but works should be finished in September and the clubhouse will be in tip top condition again.

The ethos of the club has always been to encourage inclusivity, friendliness and a community spirit, but with social distancing being enforced they have had to cease all social events and roll up tennis. However, this has not deterred the committee from organising organised play for members on 6 days of the week. The club has also organised tournaments and these are underway which will culminate in some sort of finals event in September.

For more details on the club and membership please visit https://cspchamber.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0fee5347a3a65e27abbc26ab8&id=fe958bb26b&e=44b0d355ec" rel="nofollow - - the website

News from the Chamber September 2020

Membership drive

September is here, which means we need to start thinking about our Christmas decorations in the village. Sadly this year we are seeing an all time low with memberships from our shops and village centre businesses, the majority of our members do not have a high street presence.  Our membership is just £45 a year, a nominal amount of less than £1 a week considering the effort that our volunteers put in to make the street decorations happen as well as all the other work they do. if you are interested in finding out more about the benefits of belonging to the Chamber, please contact me and I will be very happy to talk to you. Memberships run from January to December, If your membership has lapsed or you'd like to join up, click on https://cspchamber.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0fee5347a3a65e27abbc26ab8&id=6d78a08942&e=44b0d355ec" rel="nofollow - https://cspchamber.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=0fee5347a3a65e27abbc26ab8&id=1b2e57287b&e=44b0d355ec" rel="nofollow - good causes? For just £1 a week you'll be in with a chance to win £25k! All funds raised go towards the street decorations. We've recently relaunched this initiative and I'm pleased to say our efforts have paid off and we are now raising £1,300 a year. Thank you to all of you who have purchased a ticket or two.

Has the temporary quietway had an impact on your business, either positive or negative? Please let  the Parish Clerk, Debbie Evans know your thoughts by emailing her on mailto:clerk@chalfontstpeter-pc.gov.uk" rel="nofollow - clerk@chalfontstpeter-pc.gov.uk

Portable Appliance Testing

Portable Appliance Testing is the routine inspection and testing of electrical appliances to check that they are safe to use. It also helps ensure that the necessary Health and Safe Regulations are complied with.  The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 places a duty of care on both employer and employee to ensure the safety of all persons using the work premises.

The Housing Act 2004 for England and Wales states that an environment is to be safe and healthy for any potential occupiers and visitors. This also applies to portable electrical equipment and the condition of associated leads and plugs if they are provided as part of a rented dwelling.

The visual inspection will identify if there is any damage such as cracks, cuts, burn marks or signs of overheating to the plug, the flex and the body of the unit.
The plug will be checked that it is correctly wired, that the flex is restrained correctly and that a fuse of the correct rating is fitted.
Provided the visual inspection is satisfactory then the appropriate tests are conducted.

Earth Continuity, Insulation Resistance, Leakage Test, Run Test.

The results of both the inspection and testing is then recorded on a standard report form.
