To save admins time and bother I've posted this directly in here in the Forum Of The Damned section, hope that's OK.

This is interesting reading and sort of shows what I've thought all along that higher speeds doesn't necessarily mean more accidents. However, statistically it doesn't prove much considering the narrow snippets of data.

Bucks speed cameras 'failing to cut accidents'

SPEED cameras in South Bucks are failing to cause accident rates to drop despite successfully bringing average speeds down.

Roads in Beaconsfield, Chalfont St Peter, Denham and Stoke Poges which have speed cameras saw an increase in the number of road accidents from 2009 to 2010 according to new figures released by Thames Valley Police.

All the roads saw the average speed drop over that period of time, but the figures show that they did not see a similar fall in accident rates.

Speed cameras are a dangerous distraction. Drivers should be concentrating on the road ahead in these so called "accident blackspots" and not at the camera or your speedo. A flashing warning sign to slow down drivers like on Packhorse Road, Gerrards Cross would be much safer for everyone since it doesn't create panic or an obsession with your current speed in the same way.
