I love this place - the bacon sandwiches are superb as they are on fresh bread and there's more than 2 rashers! Yes, yes, I am a salad dodger...

Brilliant place! They do the BEST bacon rolls and the cakes are lovely as well. I quite often meet my Mum in there for a cup of tea and a cake

Shame it's the only place where you can sit and have a coffee (pubs excluded).

Had a nice bacon roll and coffee today (was going to go to Top Crust but the sound of that fire alarm battery warning drives me nuts).

Only complaint was that the tables were dirty with the remains of other peoples food and debris. Funny enough, two chaps came and sat two tables away and said the same thing and one asked one of the girls to give the table a wipe which she duly did. Just the one table mind, the other tables remained filthy and untouched.

So, nice roll but not so keen on the dirty table and bit's of sweetcorn from someones sandwich nor the litter blowing off the tables onto the street.

I think halls is the best for sandwiches in CSP. The staff are friendly and generous with the fillings. And they are cheaper.

Interesting reading the comments about Hall's.  The thing that irritates me and my wife consistently is the very slow service there for customers who only want to buy bread, etc.  The staff don't seem to understand the concept of quick, efficient service, and when customers are buying sandwiches & drinks, others who want to take away small items have to wait while usually the only person serving deals with orders that take longer.  I always tell myself I want to give them some feedback but haven't quite managed it yet.  So, I usually go elsewhere.  Why don't they have more staff and manage the two different types of customer?

I can see where you are coming from Beaver. May be they should have two queues. One for bread/cakes and one for the sandwiches/drinks.
Obviously if you are buying sandwiches and bread you should only have to queue in the sandwiches queue not one then the other!

Afraid my Mum & Dad fell foul of this.  THey went into Halls for a cup of coffee and assumed there were two queues as there were two counters.  The staff were really rude and so they have never been back.

Halls should decide what they want to be, a bakers or a coffee shop, especially as there is now a decent coffee shop in the village.

Where?
If you are referring to Top Crust then I beg to differ. They do not serve cakes and I like a piece of cake with my coffee on a Saturday.

But to be fair, it doesn't take much to pack out Halls. Is it 3 tables inside?

But it takes even less people for a shop to be empty....

I used to be with it. But then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems scary and weird.

Now my weekends are more free I've tried Hall's twice.  I've found the coffee very good, the food has been fine but nothing special.  I don't find it a very nice environment to sit and eat.

We did buy a loaf of fresh bread that was very nice.

As I have said before the reason I frequent Halls (for a sit down coffee / tea) is because of the cakes. If Top Crust had opted for a more 'tea / coffee shop' feel then I think it would be more popular. It seems to be more of a competitor for Mr Crusty's (with somewhere to sit) rather than Halls as it seems to be more of a sandwich bar than a coffee / tea place
