The Zip fastener as we know it today was invented in 1913 by Gideon Sundback and patented in 1917 as the Separable Fastener.

The term "zipper" came into use in 1923.

Not many people know that.

The Bass red triangle was Britain's first registered trademark in 1876. I learnt that from a beer mat in a pub a few weeks ago.

Of course the first zip was invented in 1893, although it was different from the conventional zip we use today.

I think a poll is needed on what initials are on peoples zips.
