At approximately 10.50am on Wednesday 16 March a distraction burglary
>took place in The Gowers, Amersham. The offender told the resident
>that he was from a new Sainsburys supermarket opening up in the area
>and that the resident had been selected to recieve a prize of Free
>samples of food.

>Although food was left with the resident a large amount of cash was
>stolen from the property.

>Sainsburys say that no new supermarket is opening in that area and they
>would never promote new stores in this manner.

>The offender is described as a White male, in his mid 50's, 5'8" tall,
>with white hair and a heavy build, wearing a navy top and bottoms. He
>had a local accent and was carrying a clipboard and a woven bag. He
>seemed very happy and jolly.

>Please make your members aware of this new approach to distraction
>burglaries, due to its success we fear it will be attempted in other
>areas across the county. Encourage members not to open the door to
>unexpected visitors and to always check ID by phoning the company
>involved and if in doubt KEEP THEM OUT.
