OK. Who can tell me any more about the murder which occurred in Chalfont St Peter (I see I have your attention) in the early nineteenth century (no, don't go away ...)? The Red Lion pub, sometimes simply known as The Lion, was located in Lion Yard (long gone)and the proprietor in those days was a Thomas Ware. Ware lost his license when someone with the popular local surname of WORLEY murdered someone in the pub. The murder victim had the same surname as the publican - WARE but clearly was not the publican himself.

I have not managed to find any old press reports or a death record to confirm the story. I should be grateful for any further info. Thanks.
