Tried this palce last night, recommended by an aquaintance who is a curry officianado....this place is very popular with the asians/ locals so expect it to be busy....
the place is not licensed so take your own alcohol/ drinks
the place specialises in indian food, - as you walk in there is the food preparation area on the left, - behind glass, but a sort of ' theatre kitchen' where you can see whats going on and the food being prepared, - you can stand here and watch your order being prepared if you wish -great if you are picking up a takeaway...
if you wish to eat in then carry on into the heart of the place where there are tables set out, - its spotless, modern, with clean lines and a trendy feel- it gives a feeling of a fast indian food joint with modern decor and a minimalist style..... white and chrome tables, no table cloths, no 'clutter or fuss' , all very white with a few neons and coloured lights ( abit like spice in CSP and the tabla with its coloured lights....) -
there are 3 DVD displays in the corners of the room showing a bangra style MTV channel, - this provides the music whilst you dine.....
the tables seat about 50 covers max....
the menu was varied with some more unusual dishes on it, -fish seemed to be popular choices on the menu too...
we ordered a starter and main course- the starters were fantastic, and served on sizzling cast iron skillets, ( no little candle powered hot plates here)- the starters were the size of most main courses in other indian restaurants.... the main courses were beatifully presented, well spiced and very filling- large servings in this place !
i had rashmi kekbab to start ( £2) , a lamb keema & peas dish ( about £5), tarka dall ( £2), naan breads( £2) and keema rice ( ?),
the rice was enough to go round 3 adults ! - the lamb dish was well spiced, not just 'hot' and full of flavour, the keema naans were good but not fantastic .... the tarka dall was spicy and really loaded with garlic,
service was fast but attentive, no sooner did we produce our bottles of cobra then the waiter produced a bottle opener+ glasses and away you go !
- as you chomped your way through the starters your main course was being prepared, with only about a 3 minute wait between the courses it is not somewhere to go to while away an evening !- the food is blazing hot, service is friendly, very quick and very efficient, great if you want a curry in a hurry but dont just want the usual offerings of tasteless ' westernised' chicken tikka !
the place was busy last night ( a monday ), with nearly every table in use, everyone other than us was asian, so for me the fact the locals were using it meant it must be fairly good authentic indian food !
it was a great place, but its not a conventional indian eatery..... more of a trendy metting place & somewhere to get authentic indian food without waiting ages for it, - all very clean, the theatre kitchen allows you to see where the food is prepared, its an honest place where you can fill you boots with great spicy food without fuss or a big bill..
the only down side was pretty average keema naan breads !
