Does anyone know what's happened to the once beautiful trees on Layters Avenue (just off Gold Hill, by the shop)?
Surely this isn't the council's work as only some of the trees have been chopped (within an inch of their lives). Any thoughts appreciated as I can't be the only one who thinks they look terrible...

Surely the council have better skilled tree surgeons? The trees are now reduced to trunks and will take years to grow back / look half decent...

I noticed a tree on the common had been chopped down too. I sat under it last summer for an ice cream with my kids...shame it's gone.

Rod - the tree on the common had to be chopped down because it split during the Xmas snow so was unsafe...and at least it looks neat! The trees on Layters Avenue are an absolute eyesore!

It's a free country, adopt whatever PC stance you want. Just don't tell me which stance I should take just because it clashes with your opinion. |

I hope there's a good reason to do this. I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that sometimes it helps the trees longevity. I could be wrong though.
