Emsy - You should check what you are covered for by your company. It may be more than you realise.

Generally I think you would insure your income if you have a mortgage, but I've never rented, so don't know how that works.  Having a pension seems to be deemed as a good thing, though I don't understand how, given recent press.

Private Health cover is undoubtedly a good thing, especially if provided by your company.  If not, the sooner you are covered (i.e. younger), the better the benefits.  They generally won't cover you for existing conditions.  Assuming you don't have any, anything that does occur will be covered.  This is just through experience, not professional knowledge.
