My daughter is consider St Clement Danes as her school from next year, in spite of the distance. Do many people travel from this area, and if so, is the distance an issue, for both travel and socialising? Any other factors to consider? The choice to make is fairly overwhelming, given that the alternative (Beaconsfield High is 2nd on her list) is also a fantastic school. Thanks in advance!

Yes, she passed the musical aptitude test, which is one of the highest criteria (above catchment, certainly). Challoner's didn't go down well on the open day - all focussed on academic excellence, not so much on the arts, or developing well-rounded individuals. This was just her impression from one open day, I'm sure it is a great school, but she decided it wasn't for her from her impressions of the place.

And to make one other comment, my son went to Challoners and I saw many of their student musicals and plays (which they did with the girls school), and they were absolutely brilliant. Top quality, and so don’t be put off by first impressions. Good luck and well done to your daughter.

Although it will depend whereabouts in CSP you live there is little difference in distance between Beaconsfield High, Challenor's or Clement Danes (certainly not enough to worry about) so even if travel is easier to one, socialising etc will depend on "mum n dad's" taxi service.
From the sound of it Clement Danes is her choice so you've got 100% buy in, and. if you can't think of a good reason to opt for one of the others why rock the boat. Good luck to her, I wish her all the best. Art

funny we found challoners was very target driven too ,
far less effort or emphasis put on pastoral care at the open day , also talking to other parents we had some concerns about the technical subjects, - they dont have a woodwork or metal work shop ! just a 3d printer, neither of my children gave it a second thought as a result, it was off the list !
both opted for chesham grammar which also had better results than challoners for a few years after they started , great pastoral care for students, and it has all the facilities including a equestrian club and a metalwork workshop- a proper school and some ! |

For arts it is the best school, better than Dr Challoners. We really liked St Clements Dane it is a mixed comprehensive with an excellent music and drama department. Beaconsfield High had to sell there drama hall due to financial reasons but understand it is improving.
The pastoral care at St Clements Dane is amazing. Buses are from Chalfont St Giles. |
