Major
improvement works announced for A404 Bisham roundabout
|
A £4.2 million
refurbishment project to improve the A404 Bisham roundabout was announced
this week, which will see congestion reduced by conversion of the
roundabout to signalised crossroads.
The announcement that full
funding for the scheme has been secured follows a joint lobbying campaign
by Buckinghamshire County Council and Buckinghamshire Thames Valley Local
Enterprise Partnership (BTVLEP).
The scheme is part of a £170
million investment package across the UK announced by Transport Secretary
Patrick McLoughlin, designed to remove bottlenecks and keep traffic moving
on England’s motorways and major A roads.
The Highways
Agency believes the Bisham roundabout scheme will support a number of
opportunity areas locally, which are anticipated to create 6,800 jobs and
2,403 new homes by 2020.
Commenting on the proposals, Peter Hardy,
Cabinet Member for Transport and Planning for Buckinghamshire County
Council said I’m delighted with this announcement. These improvements
should deliver real benefits for road users in south Buckinghamshire,
particularly those using the A355.
BTVLEP Chairman, Alex Pratt,
added, We welcome this investment in this key piece of infrastructure
which has been championed by our County Council and which will help to
keep Buckinghamshire prosperous and such a great place to live and
work."
The Highways Agency is due to start work on the improvement
scheme in early 2014 with completion scheduled for late 2015.
