What a good gem, thanks Mushroom for shearing it with us.
So from the grocery shop as you know it, I have only known it as "Claydens" fruit and green grocers. The small building beside (not picking holes here) Was hexagon shaped not round, was the public toilets. The men's entrance was the side you can see in the picture, the ladies looked directly towards the side wall of Claydens. I also remember it having round windows and a smell I will never forget. not a bad smell more a unique smell
The first building from Claydens was the cinema. The next one down was the Memorial Hall, The ramp going up the side of the building was the entrance.
Then down a little more you can see the start of Church field lane.
On the other side of the road from the Memorial Hall. there was Davis car repairs and the curiosity cafe. Davis car repairs is were my grandmother had her accumulator charged for the radio. There was a railing along the side of the road/path for the shops. The path and the shop doors were about 2 feet lower than the road .
On the left of the picture, bucket etc out side Bishops store. Parked at the side of the Memorial hall on Churchfield Lane. There is a little van that has "Choicest dairy..................? written on the back, also on the corner, a telephone junction box, the type with a square point on top. So that it cant be sat on. also note the window cleaners ladder leaning against the fence by the telephone pole.
One shop up from Claydens, from the sign must have been a Tea Shop

It's a free country, adopt whatever PC stance you want. Just don't tell me which stance I should take just because it clashes with your opinion.

I was 9...my Mum was a part time barmaid in the Horn ..I was friends with the Nagles next door . We lived on the building site that year
With loads of family in Peter's often walked past the Farmer's down Gold Hill. When all the fuzzy bushes were there before the common was ruined. Used to catch lizards

I think the jolly farmer was known for having the biggest range of sandwiches in the UK

I recently purchased a 1950's menu of the Jolly Farmer's range of sandwiches from Ebay, facinating. As you say, over 400 choices. I have a job thinking of something different for work and end up having the same old thing!

Lucy the fearsome landlady of the Farmers then is still alive and kicking. She lives in Marsham Way near GX post office.

Just had a look on ebay. I think the chalfont stuff is overpriced for what it is. People are bidding too high (only my opinion, I suppose the value to you is what YOU are prepared to pay)

I was trying to buy bits and pieces to fill up this web site - but gave up in the end.
