That is a fantastic collection of photos.

I never knew there was a beech wood on Chalfont Common and I'd love to know where the pointed end of the Monument (obelisk) has gone..

Anyone know?

Still don't know what I want to do when I grow up...

It's a free country, adopt whatever PC stance you want. Just don't tell me which stance I should take just because it clashes with your opinion.

Does anyone remember the little shop next door to the Jolly Farmer (Village Hall) car park, run by a couple of middle-aged ladies who were obviously "good friends"?

And Ezra's?

I remember that place next to the Jolly Farmers, but can't remember its name. I think it was just about the last place in Chalfont to sell sweets from jars behind the counter.

It's now Delta Security or something.

I used to be with it. But then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems scary and weird.

Fabulous pictures, I will be spending a lot of time look at these - particularly enjoyed the ones of Hill Farm, I spent hours in the late 60's / early 70's playing in there, having apple fights with the kids from Royle Close (we were Joiner's Way) and making up ghost stories & scaring ourselves witless, they finally took it down, piece by piece in the mid 70's, just before we moved out of the road, and took it & rebuilt it at the open air museum apparently, but have never been there to see it.

I remember the shop next to the Jolly Farmers, and the ladies, one was particularly scary, but they did sell cigs to me at 13!! Although, now wish they hadn't it took be 27 yrs to finally give up!

You should go and see Hill Farm at the museum, Fans!

Its used as the Hawk and Owl Trust building - no actual birds on site but lots of info and is of real use. Really lovely building and all reconstructed piece by piece...

Still don't know what I want to do when I grow up...

So apart from the suspicion that Steve is walking strangely, what actually happened to the pointy bit after it was struck? Presumably it fell off but what then?

If it was around anywhere, it would be great to fix the Monument again or, failing that, put it up at Chiltern Open Air Museum...

Still don't know what I want to do when I grow up...

Old photos are great.  But we don't get old photos without taking them as new ones first.  So given a few decades we will all be very greatful to Steve and his camera.
