Butter and milk fine for me.
Two ideas to bring mash upmarket:
1 Stir in half an onion, thinly sliced and fried.
2 When mashing, mix in a large pinch of black cumin seeds.

you must add milk too mash patato tastes better and cheese then the dogs sit there watching you because they know you put mature cheese in it and start to sweat and they get the left overs
