Almost a forgotten word now - 'fishmongers'! Anyone remember Botts the fishmongers in Market Place just down from Robertsons the butchers? I believe Eric Stone, a rather rotund figure of a man used to be the manager, had two sons, Ian and ?. Botts of course also had a shop in GX.

It's a free country, adopt whatever PC stance you want. Just don't tell me which stance I should take just because it clashes with your opinion.

Yes, I worked there, Saturdays, around 1957, I think.............
Pay was 7/6  for Saturday mornings, extra 5/- if Saturday afternoon as well.
Taught me how to fillet fish and dress a crab, lol
Always gave me a couple of fillets of smoked Haddock or Cod to take home for Saturday tea, lol

Condoms should be used on every conceivable occasion.

tobic, its a good skill to have,

so many people have no idea how to fillet or prepare fish !

i too spent my student days working for a fish wholesaler near billingsgate, - we used to prepare  fish for hotels and restaurants , i dont think there is a fish i cannot sort out !!!

those were the days.....
need a stella and i need one now !

Yes indeed, I fish a fair bit here in Western Australia and the skills I learnt have really helped to prepare them properly.
