Such a shame that the police did not turn up to stop the traffic but even more shameful that our veterans and others in the parade received verbal abuse from drivers. http://www.getbucks.co.uk/news/local-news/anger-remembrance-sunday-parade-dissolves-10429887

It doesn't surprise me. Its disgraceful whats going on out there with regards to honouring war dead, ive heard of youths pelting veterans with eggs.
We know about scum burning poppies and even the leader of the opposition cant be bothered to show any respect to the war dead. |

Sounds like a organisational error rather than anything else.. shame most people have utmost respect for veterans regardless of what rubbish you read in the tabloids..

I was at the remembrance parade in Chalfont St Giles, the Police closed the road for the parade and laying of wreaths etc. Everyone present showed respect for those who had given their lives for this country.

Yes it was a terrible shame what happened with the parade. The Chairman of the Legion is awaiting a response from his complaint to the Police so we shall see what the outcome of that is. The two organisers of the parade had liaised with the local police as they always do and had been told only a couple of weeks previously that all the plans were in place and that the police would be there as they always are. Of course we all know that although they were in the parade car park from very early on as the parade came down the hill, they didn't actually close the road until the last minute and there was nobody at all to close the road when the parade started back up the hill. Several people tried to take up the role of marshalls but it being dark and unorganised, drivers weren't particularly tolerant of the parade blocking the road and for safety it was abandoned.
The important thing is that we find a resolution with the police so that the parade can go ahead in future years, this may mean volunteers helping with road closures. I think if the correct signage and directions had been given to motorists things would have been calmer. Tempers flared because motorist were suddenly coming up to the back of the parade and trying to overtake it, I'm sure actually not realising what it was they were trying to overtake. For clarity, no veterans were abused. Volunteer road marshalls got some agro from some motorists because there was no clarity about what they should be doing and they had no support from the police. Lets work together with the legion and the police to make sure that next years event goes smoothly. To that end if anyone wants to spend some time helping the poppy appeal or assisting at the parade then please do get in touch with me, we'd be delighted to hear from you. |
