I received this via email today :

A Piece of Chalfont History Restored for Today’s Children
Open Day Saturday 30 September 10am-12.30pm

Buttercups Nursery in Chalfont Park will be showcasing its newest nursery building on Saturday 30 September. Part of the historic Chalfont Park Estate, the Gardener's Cottage will provide an additional 32 spaces for local children in the Ofsted Outstanding nursery.

Chalfont Park is steeped in history. The house and gardens which stretch for 138 hectares, were started by Charles Churchill in 1755. Over the years the grounds have been developed by various owners and designers including Lancelot “Capability” Brown, famous for introducing naturalistic landscapes to 170 gardens including Hampton Court Palace.  In its heyday, Chalfont Park hosted a plethora of the great and good, including JMW Turner, who painted a number of watercolours of the house and grounds (now owned by Tate Britain).

Much of the original landscape survives today, so despite the addition of some modern office blocks, there is a wonderful atmosphere of calmness and serenity. The nursery already occupies the Orangery and Lodge, two beautiful buildings added to the estate in the early 20th Century by Edwin Lutyens. The Gardener’s Cottage had fallen into disrepair, but thanks the architect Michael Jones, it has now been resurrected and extended to be enjoyed by Chalfont’s next generation. Flooded with natural light, the new building provides different areas for children to play, learn and develop skills with everything at their own height.

Everyone is invited to come along and see the sympathetically restored building. If you’re currently considering your childcare options it's a fantastic opportunity to meet the friendly staff and ask any questions. And there will be lots of fun activities for the under 5s.

Come and help celebrate Chalfont's past and present.
