Looking for an easy-to-wrap Christmas gift or a substantial stocking filler? Have a look at local author DJ Kelly's latest book, just out this week:
THE FAMOUS AND INFAMOUS OF THE CHALFONTS AND DISTRICT. The beautiful villages of Chalfont St Peter, Chalfont St Giles, Little Chalfont, Denham, Fulmer, Gerrards Cross and Hedgerley nestle in a tranquil setting around the Misbourne Valley in Buckinghamshire. These seven villages have been home to a surprisingly large number of famous people, including aristocrats, film stars, decorated war heroes, musicians and gifted writers, as well as the dissidents, free thinkers and non-conformists for which this district is famed. Of course, our district has also been home to some particularly infamous characters too, including a gaoled British fascist, a Cold War spy, a leading Nazi and a multiple murderer. The latest book by local author DJ Kelly features no fewer than 228 individuals who achieved fame or notoriety, from the acknowledged father of British Socialism who inspired Karl Marx to a big-time swindler whose son is one of Britain’s best-loved thriller writers. An ideal Christmas gift, suitable for all ages from 10 to 110, this fully illustrated paperback is available from Office Direct Stationers in Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross Book Shop and also online. I'm the publisher, Lesleyr, and DJ Kelly's novels and local history books are best sellers.
Her last book 'The Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross at War' was no 3 in our Top Ten Best Sellers back in the spring. Office Direct took delivery of a batch of her latest book on Wednesday last week and had sold them all by Thursday afternoon. We've now restocked though. You can meet her at the Chorleywood Literary Festival on 16 Nov or at Richmond Literary Festival on 20th Nov. |
