The Parish Council have now issued incredibly insensitive letters to the families of those buried in section K of the Garden of Rest in Denham Lane. The letters inform the families of the date they intend to grass over individual plots regardless of how well they are being maintained. The letters infrom the families that all shrubs have to be removed or the haywarden will do it.

This is despite numerous family objections, MP letters and the support of the Bucks Advertsiser.

The council, following freedom of information requests,  remain unable to provide any documentary evidence  as to  what they based their decision on.

The next Parish Council meeting is on the 25th September, 7.30 at the Community Centre.

If you oppose the grassing over of the garden of rest, please come and show your support and help persuade the Parish Council to reconsider their decision.

What do the terms and conditions of paying for a plot in the Garden of Rest say?

Following Monday 's council meeting which protesters attended and spoke about their opposition to the grassing over of the graves ,the council are holding a special meeting tonight to discuss the issue. Let's hope they change their minds.

Unfortunately the council decided not to reverse their decision and will go ahead and grass over the graves.
Well done to the people who fought the original decision and challenged the council.
They did this on behalf of past, present and future generations.
Let's hope the Garden of Rest is properly maintained by the council now that relatives have been banned from attending the graves.

I'm sorry, but I am with the council on this one, and so were all of these protesters when they bought their plots and signed their agreement to the policy of keeping the cemetery beautiful by uniform grassing over of the land between the headstones. So they've changed their minds. Tough.

There have been too many examples locally of people 'decorating' their loved ones' plots with old scarves, plastic windmills, plastic vases and plastic flowers and planting invasive, non-native shrubs, then they are left to rot or spread as few folks come back to tend them. This spoils the graveyard for the rest of us who regularly visit the graves of our own dearly departed.

It was some time ago that Bucks CC decided to have a county-wide policy of grassing over cemeteries. Our Parish Council has to abide by that and so do the families who signed up to it. As I understand it, headstones may still be placed on the graves and also integral flower holders but no other trash or additional planting. Those of us who bought plots in the new extension to the Chesham Lane cemetery - a farmer's field bought especially a few years back for the extension - were all told of the uniform grassing plan and we signed up to it.

No relatives have been banned from visiting the graves. On the contrary, we no longer have to step over plastic detritus to get to the graves. cemeteries should be places of quiet contemplation, dignity and remembrance. We don't want rotting pot plants, wind chimes and overgrown, mildewed rose bushes messing up the place. I was approached and asked to sign a petition which of course I declined. I noticed very few people had singed and some who did live overseas and do not therefore pay the wages of the Haywardens who have to tend the cemeteries. I wonder who they think will pick up their trash.

Well done Bucks CC and the Parish CC for standing fast and keeping our cemeteries beautiful.

I think the doubt about the maintenance of the grassing over of the graves at the Garden of Rest may have come from the Parish Councils example set on Gold Hill Common and surrounding grassed areas that have been neglected of any grass cutting or feeding maintenance,  therefore it is reasonable to assume at some stage this procedure could also spread to the Garden of Rest at the whim of the Parish Council and we could end up with just an overgrown patch of ground.

I have to agree with Bucks Fizz on this on the proviso that the council maintain the cemetery in first class condition, grass cut regularly etc with no excuses such as 'budget cuts' accepted.
