I'm no fan of politicians, but tjis time it should be clear: she delivered what she said she would.

Actually she delivered exactly and completely on what she promised: a complete change of policy whereby the imposition of high volume housing was being imposed from central government, replaced by a policy where developments would be decided by local people.

It is the planners at CDC who are blithely ignoring the change of policy and ploughing ahead despite the overwhelming protests and despite the fact that they have no evidence for need or desire.

Did you see the article in the Advertiser (page 3)?  CDC planners must be made to block this, or at very least defer a decision until there has been time to consider other options.  Apart from the schoold land swap, the most favoured one, there are other options.  There is no rush, unless maybe the CDC planning people are waiting to get their back-handers before Christmas.

Everyone, go to the planning meeting at 6pm on 5th August at CDC's offices in King George V Road, Amersham.  Let them know your objections by being there and waving a flag - or something.  SENSE may even be producing some placards.  Now's the time!

Or you could just stay at home.

Any news from the meeting?

I couldn't go to the meeting, but on the 10pm LONdon BBC news last night the article about Chalfont St Peter said 'the residents lost their case'.

Hopefully someone who was there will keep us posted today.

Gerald Eve's application for the Holy Cross site was approved.
This was an application to approve change of use (from a school to housing), and an outline application only so the details (numbers, type, layout, trees kept/lost) can all be changed without further serious challenge - unless the public get SERIOUSLY involved.

Our councillors all voted against, but the decision was ultimately made by people from other parts of the Chiltern District - who would rather see CSP blighted than their own areas of course.  It was steamrollered through - we should use a steamroller on CDC's planners.  They have ignored the wishes of the local people and NOT taken the time to consider several other options for better use of the space. And they have not properly copnsidered the objections (their decision to proceed was confirmed just one week after the close date for objections - likely they had made up  their minds before they even looked at any objections).

What next?

Well CDC have completely ignored the Secretary of State's directives about localism, i.e. leaving decisions to local people, unless you call making a decision about CSP being made by someone from Great Missenden 'local'!
SENSE and the Parish Council will continue to fight this big time.

1. This application now has to go to the Secretary of State for Communities, Eric Pickles, the very person who has been espousing localism.  If that policy is not a joke he should surely throw it out.  We will be speaking directly to our MP of course.

2. Judicial Review.  CDC have blatantly driven this forward whilst ignoring not only what residents want but they have not gone through proper procedures - technical issues, and consultation.  If Pickles does not put this application in a jar (and the lid on tight!) then we will initiate a Judicial Review - a lengthy process - to challenge the process and thus the result.

Meanwhile, GE will be looking for developers who want to buy the site - although they probably already have some lined up.  Until that happens we don't know anything about possible timings.

A very good turn-out from residents - who were pretty angry.  And importantly the BBC is now on this case, if you saw last night's local news?  This is being seen as a test case for hundreds of similar developments in the country - initially proposed by the previous government but now with a momentum local planners and councillors seem unable to stop.  So, as a test case there will be more publicity - back to you, Mr Pickles.  We have the evidence from the village survey about what local people don't want, and what they do want.

Remember, we accept that the site will be developed, but insist that it is done in keeping with existing densities and character, and that local amenities should be improved not drowned.  Possibly some (fewer) house, possibly a school site swap, possibly other amenities together at the site, and other options being worked on.  A battle lost, but the fight goes on.

I went along last night and it was a fantastic turnout from those who made the effort.Clap

The 3 councillor's representing CSP where brilliant as well as the Parish council and objector to the development spokesman.Clap

Unfortunately democracy was over ruled, however, we may have lost 1 battle but not the war.

Shame on the Catholic church for selling the land to the developers, I seem to remember the parents of the school managed to raise a couple of £millions but it wasn't enough. Perhaps we should lobby the pope when he visits next month.
