A THIRD ATTACK
---------------------
WE HAVE THE PARISH COUNCIL PREPARING THEIR RESPONSE TO THE POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENT UP TO AROUND 800 HOUSES (THE DRAFT CORE STRATEGY), AND WE HAVE THE VDS PREPARING ITS RESPONSE TO THE CORE STRATEGY AS WELL, BUT WE NEED A THIRD ACTION GROUP TO DEAL WITH POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENT BEFORE THE CORE STRATEGY EVEN COMES INTO FORCE.

It is encouraging that so much work is being put together by members of the village in order to tackle the issue of the onus on Chalfont St.Peter to take the quota of housing that central government is asking local councils to abide by.

However, it has become very clear, including to members of the Parish council and the VDS committee, that there is another fight to be had, the urgent need to fight the immediate threat of development on Holy Cross, if we the residents feel so inclined. It is possible that planning permission could be requested before Christmas, and with the prospective change in government next summer and the Conservative party saying that previous housing numbers will be scrapped, it could well be in the developer's interests to get this moving asap. Also they have apparently been looking at this project for 4-5 years, and until the exhibition the village has been kept completely in the dark. This company has a track record of pushing through developments, including convent sites... They must not be underestimated.

The parish council has already been accused of bias. To save them any more embarrasment and to get things moving quickly this is a fight that should not be controlled or managed by members of the councils, although their expertise and knowledge is very valuable.

I WOULD ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO ATTEND THE VDS MEETING ON SATURDAY.

ADDITIONALLY IF WE ARE NOT IN FAVOUR OF THE KIND OF DEVELOPMENT PROPOSED THEN WE NEED PEOPLE TO GET INVOLVED AND TAKE UP THE MANTLE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

Quite right, there is a third and more urgent third stream of threat, from the developers of Holy Cross.  The council have recognised that and are on the case, including inviting the developer to the meeting on Saturday (and having prepared a list of questions for him).  But if someone wants to take up the mantle then please let us know.

Most important is yes, if people have an opinion then make it clear, in the forthcoming residents consultation survey (next week), and come to the meeting.

That's the answer - what's the question?

That very much depends on who answers the question. If it is the PC, you will have a biased view of some xenophobic middle-Englander, who resists change to the core. Some of them would rather we were back in Victorian times, having to tug at forelocks and doff caps as they pass by. LOL

Oh dear Flyboy, get rid of the chip on your shoulder. At least the PC is willing to get off it's ****, stand up and be counted and try to do something positive for the local community. If you don't agree, get off your ****, do something POSITIVE, come up with CONSTRUCTIVE ideas that others will support as a cohesive and benificial way forward.

As for xenophobia (fear of that which is different from oneself), that might explain a lot of things!

Since when has the PC ever done anything that was solely for the community's benefit? They are a self-serving, ill-centred bunch of elitists who rarely do anything unless it benefits them directly.

Solely? Quite a narrow view there.

Perhaps paying for the free hour in the CSP car park? Thousands of pounds for Feast Day? Just for starters.

I used to be with it. But then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems scary and weird.

The alternative.......

Anarchy reigns and we all get wet!

I'd much rather have those that try, as opposed to those who continually bitch and can't come up with any good ideas of their own.

Hi, all,

As Number42 (is that a bus??) has mentioned, this Saturday's meeting is at the Chalfonts Community College of Narcot Lane - starting at 10am.

Please note that parking is very, very limited in the area. There is almost no parking on site, nor is there much safe parking on Narcot Lane, and access has to be preserved into Pinetree Close. Your best bets are either to walk or cycle or to park somewhere off Grove Lane and walk through the alley way past the Leisure Centre.

If anyone is interested in opposing the development of the Holy Cross site, then there will be someone at the meeting on Saturday to take your details who will be pointed out to you.

Tasks will vary from being very involved to the people who simply have enough time to either deliver some leaflets locally or to write the occasional letter, so please feel that whatever you can contribute will be very much appreciated.

See you there.

So you are presumably comfortable with the way parliament is behaving then?

That is a totally different argument.... or two, or three!

I'm quite comfortable with the overall structure and intent of our democracy, sure the PC's, DC's and Government get it wrong (in my opinion, but what's right or wrong to me could be the opposite for someone else) occasionally so equally they need to accept that they won't please all of the people any of the time. However, they do try to get a reasonable balance taking everything into account, and, we do have the option of calling foul as has been more than adequately demonstrated of late.

Each and every one of us has the easy option of putting ourselves up as a candidate, certainly at PC level, and, if we think we can positively add value and sell our ideas to the local community I'm sure we would get voted in.
