Gutted to hear that there will be no Feast Day concert next year. Yes there are teenagers who might misbehave a bit but I have never seen any trouble. It seems like we are being punished by the organisers.

Why does it seem like like the organisers are punishing us?

Because they are not working with us to remedy the problems. There is seven months to go til Feast Day. Plenty of time to strategise.

Not at all, certainly don't mean to be, just wondering if you'd offered to help given that you felt strongly enough about it to suggest that the organisers were punishing you and you were suggesting that they should strategise with you. If you want them to strategise with you, have you contacted them to offer your help?

From the Feast Day Committees statement on their website, (see link below) it does seem to be that they need more volunteers to help manage the event in the evening. It is a brilliant evening and has always been a roaring success, it will be a real shame to lose it, but I can fully understand that it a very heavy workload for the people who arrange and manage it.
Yes, I have been a volunteer, mainly driving the mini bus during the day, but I'm prepared to help in the evening if it will keep the concert going. http://www.feastofstpeter.org.uk/ |

Indeed Sunray and I know you've done and do plenty in the village.
This event and the Christmas fun night is organised by a handful of volunteers, approx 6!!! They work on both events and have done for years. They ask and ask for volunteers to help them and nobody comes forward, it's the same few year in year out. They never have enough car stewards or volunteers to pick up litter or indeed volunteers for anything! They have a hardcore of people who do help them and those people rarely change from year to year. The clear up last year and the clear before took them hours and hours because people didn't volunteer in any significant number and the litter alone, forgetting any other issues, is a huge job because huge numbers of people just walk away from their litter all day and all night and expect somebody else to pick it up for them. They did pay for security and car marshalling last year but each time they have to pay third parties it takes away from the funds raised for local charities which is the primary function of the event. I think people should contact them directly via the website and offer to physically help if they feel strongly about it, don't think that the same few volunteers can just keep going and going. |
