Hi Jay,! I asked this question of some of the mums as not being local born and bred I don't really know the way it all works. I was recommended these people over and over:
Susan Daughtry Education Twist in the Tale (in Amersham though) Fraser Stevens Learning (formerly Lucky Gecko) Wendy Greenwood 07852562080 (one on one tutor) Teachitright These all came from mums whose kids have sat the 11+ and who I know are very switched on, if you know what I mean!! ;) Hope that they help you in your search for the right place for your child. |

it does raise the question though, if you need to coach to get your kid through then will they struggle with the level of coursework at a grammar school ?
surely the idea is to do the exam and see the level at which your child works to and then place them in an appropriate school environment ?

Yes that's a good point Baggles but I think that many people tutor as it's the practice of exactly how the questions are answered to best effect which the private schools (generally) do extensive work on and the speed at which the questions need answering to finish the paper, apparently you have to be very fast indeed. The other issue that parents talk about generally is that because most parents tutor the general standard in class starts to increase so if you don't tutor there is the worry your child falls behind in their class regardless of you feeling they could pass the exam or not. Now this is all new to me as I have a single 8 year old so going through this for the first time and just listening to my peers so my actual experience could be different. I was heartened to hear that many tutors will tell you very early on in an assessment if your child is likely to pass the exam and it is therefore your choice to continue after that, certainly the tutor I have selected has said this. The worry of doing the wrong thing?! I agree though, there would be nothing worse than being at Grammar and being completely out of your depth, suppose that is the minefield us parents have to dodge around here!!
